What is colour analysis??
Colour Analysis is an in-depth method of analyzing the overtones and undertones of your skin, eyes and hair that identify the colours that will look best next to your body. If you’re like me you may have come across this buzzword on social media and it piqued your interest… a quick google search led me down the rabbit hole of trying the “DIY-route” to find my seasonal palette. With all the mis-information on the internet about colour analysis I only got more confused!
History of Colour Analysis
I cannot confidently say who created colour analysis (its’ discovery has been credited to many different artists and designers throughout history) but what I can say is that Carole Jackson made it a pop-culture phenomenon. Her book entitled “Colour Me Beautiful” published in 1973 really took off in the 80’s with this era’s famous explosion of colour and wild fashion.
Traditional Colour Analysis divided colours into four palettes or “seasons”; Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. Based on the assessment of undertone, value and intensity, you presumably would fall nicely into one of these categories.
Colour analysis has come a long way since the 1980’s. We now better recognize the incredible diversity of individuals that do not fit neatly into four seasonal palettes. Multiple combinations of the four “pillar seasons” have created a total of sixteen(!!) different colour palettes.
Doing a Colour Analysis
After an 8-week in-depth course I can confidently say there is A LOT more to Colour Analysis than I first thought. Having received my certification to become a Colour Analyst I have a well-trained eye that can promise accurate results. In a session with me we start by finding your undertone; warm, cool or neutral. From there we try to find your “home” palette – Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn. Once we establish your home base we really get to dive into what makes you unique and find the *exact* palette that makes you glow!
Your results
You might be surprised to know that finding your palette is only the first step. Once we discover what makes your skin and eyes really pop is when we get to have fun learning about the hair colours, makeup and accessories that suit you best. I explain this in detail and help you to know what to look for before purchasing a product. I will give advice on how you can shop - both in-person AND online - within your palette. After a colour analysis you will receive a dossier about your seasonal palette that summarizes everything we discussed. You also have the option to purchase a colour wallet you can keep for quick reference.
